La Femme Deadly Venoms @ DMC West Coast/US Teams May 21, 2010

After many practice/training sessions, we finally got to rock. Last year we entered as The Deuce but this year we entered with our homegirl, Lady Fingaz as La Femme Deadly Venoms.

Big ups to Christie Z., all the DJs that entered, all our homies that came out and supported us, and congrats to Battlestar going to London to rep the U.S. It felt good to do our thang, and bring Hip Hop back to the battle.

p.s. We placed 2nd. See you guys next year.

Rock The School Bells

Don't sleep, if you love the culture, music, art--and are in the Bay Area this weekend come thru! It goes down at Skyline College in Pacifica Saturday. Highly recommend Refa1's Hip Hop Hieroglyphics workshop which he gives a thorough break down of Graffiti history, specifically the Bay Area's history--info you can't find in a book or online. Supernatural is also doing the Art of Freestyle workshop which is pretty crazy!! Would love to peep that and sharpen up my freestyle skills ;) Oh, and I'm teaching the DeeJay workshop, holla!

One of the best things to do with your girls...

KatO1O (the funkstress on the keys for Crown City Rockers), DJ Ladyfingaz (Producer/Hiphop DJ extraordinaire) and I met up at LadyFingaz home studio this past Monday. Deeandroid missed our first sesh, but who knows what we will come up with after a few more of these sessions?! The possibilities are endless. We thought we were recording but turns out we didn't! Haha!! But honestly, there were some good moments that made you feel all tingly. After the first hour, I totally forgot where I was. And when it was over, it felt like we just got done having a long conversation. But in essence, we were and that's why jamming is so much fun. Can't wait for the next Music Monday...

Inspiration.

Shafiq Husayn dropping knowledge to inspire...just what I needed to hear when I put it out to the universe, inspiration comes to you in so many ways these days.

Jam On It was of course as fun as usual! Wish I could post some video of it. It was dope jamming with our homie, DJ Lady Fingaz. She's been down with us since she moved to the bay from Nola. It's that Females Wit Funk connect that Tyra created world wide. Kat010 is multi-talented. Can't wait to jam with her cause I need to get schooled on that moog of hers. Don't miss the next one, every first Friday of the month at Elbo room!

Don't forget, this Tuesday is our monthly, SKRATCHPAD at the Cellar. We have special guests, DJ Platurn, as well as DJ Crimson and his crew, The Dime. "No Cover, Just Culture!"-Johnny Krush

DREAM DAY

I really wish we could be at two places at once today. February 5 is Mike Dream day and the Bay Area is paying tribute to celebrate the life and legacy of Mike Dream. Deeandroid and I will be rocking at Elbo room tonight for JAM ON IT while this event is going on in Oakland at New Parrish. Supporting this event would be supporting Dream's son, Akil and the book of Mike Dream's life and art work which his family and friends are putting out. Another day to remind us of something he would say, "DREAM but don't sleep." Rest in Peace.

Ladies First in the Examiner

"An event paying respect to the BayArea female DJs will leave an incredible experience with individuals that enjoy original mastery in turntablism. If you think you seen the art and stylistic technique of scratching and mixing on the turntables, you have not, unless you are in the presence of DJ CELSKII and DEEANDROID. BayArea DJ Duo, CELSKII and DEEANDROID gave a dynamite performance with their scratching and mixing skills, in which you will feel as if you were in the south side of Bronx, New york." --Draney Carr

What is a DJ if s/he can't skratch?

Listening Lounge @ 111 Minna was a party! Big ups to the Reignforest Collective for having us at their 3 year long running monthly. We had so much fun cutting it up for the people and felt a lot of great energy from the crowd. It was actually the first time I heard people yelling to hear more skratching!?! Maybe cause the folks going to this party were really there to "Listen", hence the name. But besides the great energy from the crowd, it was a special show for us cause it's the first one for us in 2010 to do a skratch set. We put it out there for the universe to hear and by the looks of it, there will be more coming this year:

Supporting our sista, Rocky Rivera, for her SF album release party! Check out her blog, Guerilla Busfare, linked over there to the right. This album is the manifestation of two years of her putting in love and work in the studio. She is definitely one of my favorite emcees in HIP HOP right now.

We are pretty excited to be jamming with our homegirl, fellow, FWF crew member, DJ Lady Fingaz (fierce on those juggles and on the mpc--watch out!) at Jam On it, the first Friday monthly at Elbo room. Get there early cause guaranteed there will be no elbow room.

Hope to see you at one of these great nights of music.

Catch us...

Tonight, there's a record and clothing sale at the FEEL MY GROOVES vinyl sale @ Spice Monkey Cafe's loft in Oakland (1628 Webster St. @ 17th), uptown area. I've been cleaning out and organizing the studio with Jus Jones and have a few crates to bring for sale! Don't sleep on some Hiphop--underground wax from the 90s, got some jazz, soul, rock, and funk breaks too.

Tomorrow night, Thursday, Deeandroid will be holding it down at DEF BEAT @ Tunnel Top (601 Bush St. SF) with Mista B, at her other Thursday weekly (Peaches @ Skylark every Thursday!). Then finally on Friday, since it was postponed from last week--Dee and I will be mixing & skratching at LADIES FIRST (Listening Lounge) @ 111 Minna:

And finally Saturday, Dee will be taking a break spinning at the bars & clubs and doing a new monthly party in Oakland, PLAYDATE @ the Marriott on Broadway. Sounds like a fun alternative to club--foods, cocktails, games, and music provided by Deeandroid! Can't wait to check this one out. For advanced tickets check out: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/77209

Thanks to all those that came out to SKRATCHPAD last night! Big ups to Anthony Medina, Scratchophone, Innofader, & Thud Rumble!

Peace.

We also have the guy who designed the Skratchophone bringing one along for DJs to try out. Check out Qbert doing a demo on one:

Warming Up

We were 17 years old when we started skratching, having sessions in our bedrooms. 13 years later, it's still something we do together--and just as fun as it was when we were teenagers!
